I’ve been really enjoying collaborating on projects with Marc Horowitz like Talkshow 24/7 and Google Maps Road Trip. Recently, we’ve been working on his website, ineedtostopsoon.com adding new content and code, reworking existing stuff, and improving some behind-the-scenes aspects of the site like load-time. It’s a role for me that’s not unlike being a part of a code-and-design pit-crew, one of my favorite ways to work.
Marc describes himself as a “Maximalist and One-Man Think-Tank.” He creates and produces and an array of projects that explore social boundaries while remaining endlessly entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny, and tenderly human.
Take Dinner With Marc for example. While working as part of the photography crew at a Crate and Barrel catalog production shoot, Marc wrote his name and phone number on a blackboard in the set’s background. After the catalog was printed, Marc received over 30,000 phone calls from catalog readers. He spent the following year having dinner with the people that had called.
Kate’s favorite is the Signature Series in which Marc drove the county in the shape of his own signature improving towns along the way. In this clip, Marc visits with residents of Memphis and talks with them about what they love:
“What I like about that one is that it’s really ridiculous and funny, and it’s really sweet too. It swings from super funny to tender little moments. I feel like it’s a really good representation of what Marc does.” -Kate
The project that I like best is the People Going Places project in which Marc gathered strangers standing at Tram stops together for group portraits.
Another favorite of mine, though not a project per-se, is this video in which Marc is mistaken by the paparazzi for Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Heder while attending Ron Jeremy’s birthday.
Please take some time to enjoy Marc’s work at ineedtostopsoon.com. It’ll make you happy.
